Clean Break Supplies
We are going through a lot of supplies, our Amazon Wishlist contains these items too!
- Towels, blankets, and linens
We are always in need of big towels, blankets and linens (please no fitted sheets or pillowcases). These are helping act as visual barriers between kennels in the clean break tents and also bedding.
- Large Busy bones that are completely digestible
These are great for our dogs to enjoy in their kennels as enrichment. The Purina Busy Bones are best for us to use.
We need these to provide an extra level of security on our kennels in the clean break tents.
- Slip Leads
Strong and thick slip leads help ensure new or frightened dogs can't slip out of their collar while staff are walking them or providing them care. The thicker slip leaders are best as they don't choke the bigger dogs who pull.
- Wet dog food
Some dogs don't want to eat try food, and the wet food is also important for dogs recovering or currently sick, as they have less appetite. We also use it for our pet food pantry - we hand out 4,000 pounds of dog food every month!
- Wet cat food
We go through a lot of wet cat food! Especially now that kitten season is in full swing. We also use it for our pet food pantry - we hand out 2,000 pounds of cat food every month!
- Cat litter
We have lots of cats, which means we are going through a lot of litterboxes!
- Disinfecting wipes
Staff and volunteers are both using a lot of these to ensure we're not spreading germs.
As the city's largest open admission shelter, ACCT Philly provides care to thousands of dogs every year. Consider lending a paw to our wonderful dogs and donating an item or two off our wishlist below.
- “Adopt Me” vests – orange, size large
"Adopt Me" vests, leashes, bandannas and harnesses are key to making sure that when our wonderful dogs are out and about, people know they're looking for homes. If you're feeling crafty, you also make these yourself!
- Kong brand and Nylabone brand dog toys (medium, large and extra large sizes are most needed)
Both brands are very durable and can be easily sanitized, which is especially important in a shelter environment. Additionally, Kong toys can be filled with treats to provide dogs with extra enrichment!
- Gentle Leaders and EZ Walk Harnesses (Sizes M/L and L are most needed)
These special harnesses help reduce pulling when volunteers are walking dogs and are also very durable.
- Stainless steel water and food bowls (all sizes)
Stainless steel water and food bowls are always needed as they're both easy to clean and easy to store when not in use.
- Slip Leads
Strong slip leads help ensure new or frightened dogs can't slip out of their collar while staff are walking them or providing them care.
- Dog treats for training
These help not only with training but with enrichment for dogs while they're awaiting adoption in our kennels!
- Busy bones that are completely digestible
These are great for our dogs to enjoy in their kennels as enrichment.
- 30′ play/training leads for dogs (no retractable leashes)
- Puppy formula and baby bottles
- Agility equipment for dogs
Did you know that in 2018, ACCT Philly took in more than 10,000 cats and kittens? We also operate a community cat program, providing spay or neuter surgery along with vaccines and an exam for community cats brought in through the program.
- Cat toys
Sanitizable cat toys such as plastic balls with bells inside are great enrichment for the cats in our shelter while they are awaiting adoption!
- Cat and kitten food, both canned (wet) and dry
10,000 cats and kittens a year means a lot of cat food! We are always in need of both dry and wet of kitten and adult cat food. Canned cat food is particulary needed, as many cats have a decreased appetite when stressed, and the smell of canned food can encourage them to eat.
- Pedialyte (Flavorless)
Sometimes cats and kittens come to ACCT Philly dehydrated, and pedialyte can help them rehydrate by providing them the neccessary electrolytes.
- Kitten formula and baby bottles
We take in many tiny kittens, and unfortunatetly sometimes they are without their moms but too young to eat on their own. Kitten formula such as KMR and kitten baby bottles help provide them the nutrition they need.
- Canned sardines or tuna
When placed inside a humane trap, sardines and tuna make the trap irresistable to most cats!
- Styrofoam and styrofoam cooler boxes
These are used inside the rubbermaid storage bins, to provide an insulated shelter for community cats.
- Rubbermaid storage tubs (18 gallon and 36 gallon)
These are used to make insulated shelters for community cats, using strafoam as insulation and straw for bedding.
- Straw bundles for community cat housing
Straw makes great bedding for community cats, both in the summer and winter months, so straw bundles are much appreciated!
EXOTICS & SMALL ANIMALS
You knew we helped dogs and cats, but did you know that we also help exotics and small animals? From turtles to guinea pigs, we provide them with the care they need.
- Heat lamps for reptiles (ceramic is ideal)
Reptiles are cold-blooded and need to be housed at certain temperatures to ensure they stay healthy, and heat lamps are crucial to making that happen.
- Timothy and alfalfa hay for rabbits and other small animals
Timothy and alfalfa hay are important parts of the diet of small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits (it can provide enrichment to them too when placed inside a paper roll!).
Humidifiers can help cats recover quicker from upper respiratory infections.
- New and used dog crates (all sizes)and cat carriers and kennels (all sizes)
These are always needed for dogs and cats so they can be transported safely. Both wire and airline kennels and carriers are accepted (we are not able to acccept wire crates that require pins)
- Towels, blankets, and linens
We are always in need of towels, blankets and linens (please no fitted sheets or pillowcases). These items can serve as bedding for animals as they await adoption, a visual barrier between cages or kennels, a soft surface on which to conduct an exam, the list goes on.
- Electric heating pads
- Gift certificates for businesses and services
- Folding tables and folding chairs
- RV or van for animal transports
