January 30, 2020, Philadelphia, PA Adoption fees for all dogs and cats at ACCT Philly will be waived this weekend thanks to a generous donation by Don’s Prepared Foods, known for brands such as Don’s Salads and Melanie’s Medleys.
As Philadelphia’s largest open intake shelter and only animal control agency, space comes at a premium, and this week the shelter has run out of kennel space for dogs. That’s why the shelter is not only doing fee waived adoptions but introducing their own Super Bowl Team: The Underdogs, with the hope it will catch the interest of those looking for the perfect halftime buddy.
“Just last week we had one day where 31 dogs came into our facility, and we simply don’t have space to house everyone. Our rescue partners have been incredible at pulling the dogs they can, but we desperately need the community to step forward and foster or adopt,” said Executive Director Aurora Velazquez. “We’re grateful to Don’s Prepared Foods and its family of brands for caring about Philadelphia’s homeless pets and making this event possible, and hope it results in all of our underdogs finding homes.”
Fees are waived for all pets at the shelter’s main location at 111 W. Hunting Park and any foster pets adopted at the location. Pets will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, microchipped, dewormed and provided age appropriate vaccinations. A $16 license fee will apply to all Philadelphia County adopters.
"We've been an active member of the Philadelphia community for 50 years and care about both two and four legged Philadelphians, so when we heard that ACCT Philly was full, we wanted to help in a meaningful way," said Victor Skloff, President and owner of Don’s Prepared Foods. "We're pleased to sponsor this adoption event and hope that by waiving the adoption fees, more pets find loving homes."
