As part of NBC’s Clear the Shelters promotion, ACCT Philly will be waiving adoption fees for all pets adopted on August 29th and 30th! As Philadelphia’s largest open intake shelter, ACCT takes in 18,000 animals annually. In July alone we took in 1,147 animals in need, and the summer months are a particularly busy time, with intake in the double digits on a daily basis.

To help #Cleartheshelters, this Saturday and Sunday, all adoption fees will be waived for dogs and cats whose adoptions are processed on those days. As appointments for both days are already booked, ACCT will be allowing walk-ins from 10am-4:30. Please be advised that due to COVID safety precautions, we can only allow a limited number of people in the building at once, so there will likely be wait prior to someone being able to assist you with a walk in.

What do I do if I don’t have an appointment scheduled?

We will be allowing walk in adoptions, however there will be a wait as we have to limit the number of people in the building at one time. When you arrive, please sign in on the sign-up sheet for a walk in, and we will call you when it is your turn. During this time, you are welcome to wait in your car, as we cannot guarantee how long the wait times will be.

What kind of pets do you have up for adoption?

We have many dogs and cats looking for homes! However, most of our dogs and cats who are located at the main facility and not in foster care are large breed dogs, and cats over the age of 6 months. If you’re interested in kittens, we suggest looking at the kittens we have available in foster care here. If you don’t see the pets you’re looking for on our website, we encourage you to check our website at a later date for new arrivals, or visit adoptapet.org to expand your search.

What does fee waived mean? Will I have to pay anything?

The adoption fee is waived, meaning that your new pet will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped at no cost to you! Additionally, dog adopters will receive a bag of dog food and thanks to NBC’s #CleartheShelters, all adopters will receive a goody bag with coupons for new supplies!

If you reside in the city of Philadelphia, you will need to pay $16 for a dog license. For cats, if you do not have a cat carrier, we will provide one for the cost of $5. If you are adopting a dog, please come prepared with a leash and collar to take home your new best friend.

I’m interested in an animal in foster care, how does that work?

If you’ve already met the animal and the foster has approved your adoption on August 29th or August 30th, we will process your adoption after the weekend but still honor the waived fee.

Can I reserve a pet ahead of time or fill out an application?

You can fill out an application however doing so simply inputs your profile into our system, it does not “reserve” that animal for you nor put you at the top of a “waiting list.” We cannot guarantee that the specific animal you are interested in will be available by the time you adopt, as we operate on a first come first serve basis.
