In light of the increasing need of pet food for pet owners due to job loss and other economic hardships, ACCT Philly will be hosting its first ever drive through dog food pet pantry. ACCT Philly was recently one of eight national pet food banks to receive a generous donation of dog food from Chewy, enabling the organization to pilot this newer concept that is both convenient and safe to pick up dog food. The organization’s regular pet pantry is open to all residents regardless of income, and is open daily by appointment.

“We’re really fortunate to have been able to partner with Chewy and receive this recent donation of nearly 40,000 pounds of quality dog food,” says Aurora Velazquez, Executive Director of ACCT Philly. “While this event is limited to dog food, we hope that we’ll be able to do more of these in the future for both dog and cat owners and help keep more people and their pets together.”

The event will be supported by volunteers from ACCT Philly, New Leash on Life and Philly Auto and Parole. The ACCT Philly pet food pantry is supported entirely by donations and grant funding and has served nearly 1,000 clients since April 1st. Thanks to the Chewy donation and a recent grant from PetSmart Charities, the pantry has been able to provide thousands of pounds of food to pet owners in need and significantly support several other pet pantries in the area as well. The number of clients served has more than doubled during the pandemic, with many participants sharing it is the only thing enabling them to keep their pets during difficult times.

Dog owners will be able to drive up and volunteers will load two bags of dog food per dog into the car so pet owners will not have to leave their vehicles for any reason. Drivers are required to wear masks.
