ACCT Philly joins 275+ shelters participating in “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” event

Philadelphia, PA, December 4, 2022 —ACCT Philly, the only open intake animal shelter and animal care and control provider in Philadelphia, continues to be filled to capacity with dozens of animals coming in daily. In an effort to draw in adopters, ACCT Philly is participating in the Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope campaign hosted by the BISSELL Pet Foundation.

“We as well as all shelters and rescues are really struggling with a lack of fosters and adopters, and it is heartbreaking to see great dogs deteriorate in the shelter, getting overlooked,” said Sarah Barnett, Acting Co-Executive Director. “The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s campaign gives us the opportunity to get more attention to the more than 200 dogs, cats and critters and hopefully find many of them homes.”

“BISSELL Pet Foundation is in constant communication with our shelter partners across the country and they are struggling with unprecedented increases in owner surrenders and longer stays for pets,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “With so many great pets waiting in shelters, our ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ event is the perfect opportunity to save a life through adoption and create space to give another homeless pet a chance. If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering.”

Being the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, ACCT Philly has been struggling to keep up with the thousands of animals brought to the shelter this summer. Shelters nationwide are seeing the impact of the shortage of adopters and fosters, and locally, that impact is having a ripple effect, impacting ACCT Philly, but also its rescue partners who then cannot take as many animals from them.

The shelter currently has dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs looking for homes. All dogs and cats come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and offers for both discounted pet insurance and virtual dog training.
