PHILADELPHIA – The Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the City’s stray animal hold facility, and it is also a pet adoption center. As the City’s largest open-admission shelter, it is the place where the tame and the wild things enter in all states of health, injury and behavior, and where ACCT Philly works in partnership with its valued partners to save the vast majority of healthy and treatable animals. ACCT Philly also provided spay/neuter surgeries for more than 3,500 community cats last year, which prevented thousands of kittens from being born in 2019. For many of the 18,000-plus animals that entered our doors in 2018, ACCT Philly was the first stop on the road to second chances. For all of these important life-saving reasons, ACCT Philly is hosting its very first Gala for Second Chances at Concilio on May 3, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., hosted by Fox 29’s Lucy Noland.

“We could not be more excited,” said Susan Russell, ACCT Philly’s Executive Director. “So many people would love to help the City’s most at-risk animals: our beautiful 100 percent purebred Philly dogs and cats. And so many people would love to help Philly become a No Kill City. By attending this Gala, they can do just that, and help us fund more of our innovative, life-saving programming.”

Longtime ACCT Philly and all things people and pet supporter, Lucy Noland, is no stranger to ACCT Philly’s challenges that additional fundraising could help tackle. “Those community cats aren’t going to trap, spay/neuter and vaccinate themselves!” says Noland. “ACCT Philly works in partnership with rescues and trappers and a whole slew of concerned stakeholders, and by this, I mean all of our neighbors, to really help contribute to community cat programming in the city. It’s the only humane approach to saving cats and to controlling rats and it’s the only approach that actually works.”

Hollie McDonald, the Gala committee chair found the love of her life Noelle at ACCT Philly in 2012, and hopes that by throwing a Gala in 2019, more dogs like Noelle will be saved and become valued family members: “I fell in love with my dog Noelle the moment I saw her. ACCT saved her life and on December 1, 2012, she officially became a McDonald. The gift of Noelle is a debt that can never be repaid.  However, through this Gala, I’m hoping we can raise much needed funds to save more beautiful animals like my Noelle.”
