Grant will support ACCT Philly’s lifesaving work for homeless pets
(Philadelphia, PA, May 6, 2012) ─ Best Friends Animal Society® in partnership with PetSmart Charities® is pleased to announce that the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) has been awarded a grant to increase the number of cats saved from Philadelphia’s animal care and control shelter.
ACCT Philly is a participating member of the No More Homeless Pets® Network, a program of Best Friends Animal Society that offers help and support to animal rescue groups that save lives in their communities.
“This grant project will help address one of the critical components in the homeless pets issue. By helping animal rescue groups afford to spay or neuter animals they rescue and place for adoption, we can make a significant impact on the cats saved from the city shelter,” said Ellen Gilmore, manager of Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network.
Susan Cosby, ACCT Philly’s Executive Director said: “This grant will help our 168 active animal rescue partners save 1,951 cats in May, June and July, which is an additional 334 cats transferred out compared to last year. The spaying and neutering operations made possible by this grant will help offset the costs our partners assume when rescuing cats from ACCT Philly. We appreciate Best Friends and PetSmart Charities support to make our rescue partnership program a great success.”
This lifesaving grant is part of Best Friends Animal Society’s mission of No More Homeless Pets®. Every day, approximately 9,000 pets are killed in shelters across the United States because they don’t have a home. Best Friends and PetSmart Charities are committed to saving them.
