March 12, 2020 Today ACCT Philly announced the launch of the “ACCT Philly Kennel Countdown,” an initiative to place dogs currently in their care in anticipation of renovations starting March 21st through April 8th. These renovations include not only the installation of brand-new kennels by ShorLine, but also the fixing of drainage issues and sealing of the floors in the current facility.
“We’re really excited about these changes,” said Adam Bates, Director of Operations. “The sealing of the floors and new kennels will be tremendous in helping to reduce disease transmission and improve comfort and housing of our dogs, thereby minimizing stress.”
During this time frame, ACCT Philly will need to divert intake and is partnering with PSPCA and PAWS to minimize the number of dogs who will come into ACCT during the renovations.
“We’re incredibly grateful to both PSPCA and PAWS for their support year-round and during this critical time,” said Executive Director Aurora Velazquez. “We are also counting on the community’s support during this time, we need fosters and adopters to help divert intake and make this installation go smoothly.”
Other than suspending intake, ACCT will continue to provide its regular services, including cat adoptions and field services. There are several ways for the community to help:
ADOPT: Adopters are needed! All fees are waived for dogs up for adoption at ACCT Philly’s main facility on 111 W Hunting Park Ave beginning Friday, March 13th through March 20th! All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed.
FOSTER: Whether you are interested in participating in our two-night slumber parties or fostering more long term, it will make a huge difference during this critical time. We hope to place 18 dogs into two-night slumber parties by March 18th. To have a two-night slumber party or to foster, simply come to the Adoptions Office between 1-7pm on weekdays and 10am-4pm on weekends. More can be found on the slumber party program here and our general foster program here.
DONATE: ACCT Philly is very grateful to the city of Philadelphia for covering the cost of the kennels, but we will need continued financial support to further improve the space and facility and our animal care programs. You can make a donation to ACCT Philly here.
