Keri McCann

Race: Dietz & Watson Half Marathon

Pets:

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Because a tired dog is a content dog! I also often don’t have time to visit the shelter AND get in a solo run, so running with shelter dogs is the perfect way to cover both.

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

I’ve been racing with Team in Training for two years. I am happy to switch it up and raise some money for the doggos.

Fundraising Goal:

$500

Meghan Kelly-Howard and Gina Gardener

Race: Rothman 8K

Meghan – One cat, Penny.

Gina –

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Meghan – I never owned a dog, but I’ve always been a “dog” person. Not only is running good for humans’ overall health, but it’s good for dogs, too! Dogs have so much energy, so even if you get tired, they’re still ready to keep running, which gives you that little extra motivation to not quit.

Gina –

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

Meghan – I picked ACCT as my charity because of their mission and passion to save animals, especially the abused and neglected. They only want what’s best for the animals, and do all they can to help them. ACCT is also very active in the community, from community pet food pantry, to TNR, to foster information. This organization goes above and beyond in many ways. Thanks, ACCT!

Tammy Flail

Race: Rothman 8K

Pets:

Blue (mini Aussie), Dublin (flat coat retriever mix), and Franklin (chow/collie mix)

What’s your favorite reason to run with dogs?

It’s a great exercise for both me and the dog!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

Two of my dogs are rescues, and while they were not adopted from ACCT, I have several friends whose dogs WERE adopted from ACCT. This is a great opportunity to fund raise and bring awareness to the need to rescue.

Andrea Hill

Race: AACR Marathon

Pets:

I have two dogs, and one cat.

What’s your favorite reason to run with dogs?

They challenge me to run faster!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

Although I’m not currently fostering, I am an approved ACCT kitten foster parent, and work as a veterinary assistant at a local hospital, so any opportunity to help animals in need is one that I am more than willing to participate in.

$150

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Running is already one of my favorite activities and then adding a best friend to run with me makes it exponentially more fun. I just started with the running team at ACCT and getting those dogs out to run out their energy and hopefully have a less stressful stay (until they get adopted) is so rewarding!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

I’I wanted to run for ACCT because as a volunteer, I’ve learned a lot about the great things that the shelter does for animals in need in Philadelphia. I hope the money I fund-raise is able to save lives whether it be directly or indirectly.

Fundraising Goal:

$750

Nancy Rondeau

Race: Dietz & Watson Half Marathon

Pets:

3 rescue dogs – Harriet, a coonhound; Artemis, a lab mix; and Moseley, a dachshund.

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

I love sharing my run with my dog. Running with a dog is a great motivator because they always enjoy any excuse to get out and run. I also love having some company on my runs without having to coordinate schedules with someone. When I run with my dog, she often reminds me to take in the scenery a little more and maybe notice things I normally wouldn’t (usually a bunny or a squirrel)!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

I am a new volunteer with the Monster Milers and am excited to get more involved, so when this opportunity came up it seemed perfect. I love helping animals and it’s a good push to train for a new race at the same time.

Fundraising Goal:

$1,000

Allegra Haldeman & Ryan Oehmsen

Race: Dietz & Watson Half Marathon

Pets:

We have three chihuahua mixes, two of whom are adopted from ACCT Philly. We have a three-legged 12 year old named Charlie who we have had for 10 years, a four legged senior named Little Thing we adopted from ACCT Philly 3 years ago, and a two legged youngin’ who we adopted from ACCT Philly 2 years ago.

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Allegra – I joined The Monster Milers (A Philadelphia based running club that supports our city’s shelters by running with their dogs) about one year ago. I love the idea of doing something that is good for both the runner AND the dog’s mind and body. It is a great way to support shelter dogs in a positive and structured way that doesn’t feel overwhelming to me as the volunteer visiting the shelter.

Ryan – I support Allegra and The Monster Milers and the work she does with them. Although I have only run with dogs in my personal life, I am an advocate for adopting (hence the three pets – two of whom are failed fosters). Since we will be training together, I plan on joining The Monster Milers and ACCT Philly Runners and look forward to running with the dogs!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

Allegra – The Monster Milers work with ACCT Philly and their runners and doggers regularly and as a representative of the Monster Milers I wanted to support them! I also believe that if you want to help homeless dogs in Philly a great place to start is the source of intake. Since ACCT Philly is the only open intake facility in Philadelphia they need as much support from their community as possible. I’d love to help in this new way by reppin’ for The Monster Milers and ACCT Philly at the Marathon! Also, all of our dogs came through ACCT so we ALWAYS are looking for a way to give back.

Ryan – All three of my littles are from ACCT Philly. I’m a proud dog dad and want to represent for them!

Fundraising Goal:

$1,000

Morgan Polley

Race: AACR Philadelphia Marathon

Pets:

Zelda, my pittie-mix ACCT alumna, and Rosie the cat, whom my husband and I adopted in Pittsburgh

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

My dog Zelda has super high anxiety, and running helps her relax! She also loves going outside and has great endurance, and so makes a great partner in training for marathons and trail runs. Running is my stress reliever and having a dog along the way makes it that much better. Dogs hold you accountable and motivate you not to give up too easily!

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

That’s easy – I work there! My pup is also from ACCT and I know how much she and dogs just like her love to get out and move. It’s important to me that we continue bringing outdoor enrichment activities to all the dogs in our care and running (and fundraising) for ACCT is my way of assisting those programs.

Fundraising Goal:

$250

Maggie Juliano

Race: Dietz & Watson Half Marathon

Pets:

Two cats, Holly and Hannah.

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Joy! They remind me to keep it fun. Also, my dog Tuesday was a high energy pup that needed runs – she passed June 3 of this year.

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

I want to help raise visibility (and money) for ACCT’s running program and all dog running programs!

Fundraising Goal:

$300

Joe Nolan and Sera Bayruns

Race: Rothman 8K

Pets:

Pepper, a black lab/ pittie mix.

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Sera – It makes the running fun and helps you notice things you never paid attention to before. I love meeting different dogs and learning their personality. When they get a chance to be outside the shelter and expend some pent-up energy, their true personalities are revealed!

Joe – It makes running fun. Sometimes running can be boring, but not when you have a dog with you.

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

Sera – ACCT is a great resource for pets that have no other option – and not just to get pets to their new furever homes. I love that ACCT will help dogs in need by providing vet care, food, and other resources for pet owners who might not be able to afford it otherwise. Keeping companion animals with their owners keeps animals out of the shelter, so more animals can be saved.

Joe – I agree with Sera!

Fundraising Goal:

$500

Angela and Nicholas Leighton

Race: Dietz & Watson Half Marathon

Pets:

Bear, a rescue German Shepherd/Lab mix from ACCT, and Maizy, a rescue Blue Heeler from Delaware County SPCA

What is your favorite reason to run with dogs?

Our rescue dog Bear is extremely anxious and running is one of the few things that keep him calm, especially while outside. Running ACCT dogs is important to us because dogs who are in the shelter are afraid and pent-up. Running is a great way to exercise the dogs and make them more comfortable with their surroundings.

Why did you choose to run for ACCT Philly?

I [Angela] have fostered with ACCT for the past eight years. I have rescued over 100 kittens, and both of us truly care for animals. ACCT rescues countless animals each month, and we would both like to help fund raise for this shelter!
